In response to Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, Iran’s central military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has announced the closure of the crucial waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, to shipping.
In a statement broadcast on state television, Iranian military authorities stated that Israel’s recent attacks in Lebanon are considered a violation of the US-Iran agreement. This measure was taken for this reason, they claimed.
The statement declared, “The Strait of Hormuz has been closed to shipping. This is the first step against the enemy’s breach of commitments.”
It further stated that if aggression continues, more steps will be taken to compel the enemy to adhere to their obligations.
Iran claims that Israel’s attacks in Lebanon contravene the spirit of the recent understanding between Tehran and Washington. According to Tehran, Israel is conducting these attacks with US backing or silent support.
