Prime Minister: BNP Delivers on its Promises When in Power

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was showered with the affection of millions in Borura, Cumilla, on his way to Chandpur for the first time after the 13th national parliamentary election. After 25 long years, party leaders and activists, as well as general citizens, crowded both sides of the road to see their beloved leader.

On Saturday (May 16) at noon, the Prime Minister addressed a road meeting organized at Laxmipur Bazar Ground in Borura Upazila, Cumilla. During the event, local public representatives presented three long-standing key demands to the Prime Minister, prominent among which were the declaration of Cumilla as a division and the establishment of an agricultural university.

In response to these demands from the public representatives and local people, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that if declaring Cumilla a division is indeed a public demand, then it will be implemented.

Concurrently, he also offered a positive assurance regarding the establishment of an agricultural university there.

At the beginning of his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted various development and welfare-oriented initiatives of his government, stating, “In line with BNP’s electoral promises, initiatives such as canal excavation, distribution of family cards and farmer cards, and providing honorariums to Imams and priests have already commenced. BNP fulfills the promises it makes when it comes to power.”

Emphasizing that it is now time to build the nation together, the Prime Minister stated that everyone must ensure from their respective positions that all citizens can become self-reliant. The people are the owners of the country; when the owners take responsibility, the country moves forward.

Criticizing the previous government, Tarique Rahman remarked that just as dictators oppressed and persecuted the country, they also embezzled public funds. “As a result, the country’s economy is currently under some pressure,” he added. He urged the countrymen to be patient to overcome this economic crisis.
