Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has officially inaugurated the ‘Army Headquarters Selection Board-2026’ of the Bangladesh Army.
He inaugurated the selection board on Sunday (July 26) at the Army Headquarters, attending as the chief guest.
In the first phase of the Army Headquarters Selection Board, eligible officers of the Bangladesh Army will be considered for promotion from Colonel to Brigadier General and from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel.
In his address to the promotion board, the Prime Minister remembered the great declarer of independence, valiant freedom fighter and martyred President Ziaur Rahman, and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He also paid tribute to the martyrs, wounded, and heroic freedom fighters who participated in the Great War of Liberation, and to the martyred and brave soldiers of the Armed Forces, particularly the Bangladesh Army.
The Prime Minister also respectfully remembered the army personnel who were injured and martyred while on duty in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The Prime Minister instructed the members of the selection board to prioritize officers’ professional competence, leadership qualities, discipline, integrity, trustworthiness, loyalty, and above all, suitability for duty, rising above political ideologies and personal preferences in matters of promotion.
He stated that the Bangladesh Army plays a crucial role in maintaining the country’s independence and sovereignty, preserving internal peace, order, and stability, and assisting the civilian administration in disaster management.
The Prime Minister extended his sincere thanks to the Chief of Army Staff and all members of the Army for their sacrifices and contributions when the nation needs them.
Upon the Prime Minister’s arrival at the venue, he was welcomed by the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of General Staff (CGS). The Chief of Army Staff expressed his gratitude and thanks to the Prime Minister for attending and inaugurating the selection board despite his busy schedule.
The Prime Minister’s Defense Advisor, Brigadier General Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, PSC, G (Retd.), and other senior military officials were present at the ceremony.
At the end of the event, the Prime Minister participated in a photo session with the army officers present and recorded his valuable comments in the visitor’s book.
