Alongside the Padma Barrage, the current government will also construct the Teesta Barrage, stated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The Prime Minister made these remarks on Wednesday (May 20) morning in Gazipur, following the inauguration of the country’s first National Disaster Management and Training Institute.
The Prime Minister said that while many spoke big words, only the BNP had agitated for a fair share of Teesta’s water.
The Prime Minister stated that alongside reducing the use of groundwater, food production in the country must be increased. The current government is progressively implementing the electoral promises made to the people.
It is noteworthy that the government is set to construct a new Padma Barrage on the Padma River in Bangladesh at an estimated cost of approximately BDT 35,000 crore. This mega-project will be implemented over the next seven years with the government’s own funding.
Once implemented, the project will alleviate water scarcity in 24 surrounding districts, benefiting approximately 70 million people.
