Under the new provisions, individuals under 15 years of age will not be able to create, operate, or use personal accounts on social media platforms. Furthermore, they will not have the opportunity to exchange direct messages, publish posts, comment, share information, or participate in open groups and channels.

Social media operating companies, including Meta, TikTok, and X, have been given a 12-month transition period to implement this policy. During this time, they must develop effective age verification systems to identify and close accounts belonging to users under 15.

According to experts, the UAE government has taken this initiative to protect children and adolescents from technology addiction, cyberbullying, and the risks of online crime.
