Death Toll Rises to 3,342 in Venezuela Earthquake, Rescue Operations Underway

The death toll from the earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 3,342. At least 16,700 more residents have been injured in the twin earthquakes that struck the country consecutively. Additionally, thousands of residents remain missing. This information was reported on Monday (July 06) by Turkey’s state news agency Anadolu Agency.

On Sunday, the country’s Ministry of Information announced that the death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck Venezuela last month has exceeded three thousand. The La Guaira region of the country suffered the most extensive damage.

The ministry stated that 6,462 people have been rescued so far following the earthquake. A total of 856 buildings were damaged, and at least 190 other structures collapsed.

Authorities reported that 86,794 families have received assistance since the earthquake. As of now, 17,345 residents remain homeless.

A statement indicated that 4,088 international rescue workers have been deployed to the earthquake-affected areas. Additionally, Caracas has mobilized 29,567 personnel and 27,482 volunteers for relief operations.

The ministry further reported that 9,585 tons of food and 669,008 liters of water have been distributed since the earthquake. Medical assistance has been provided to 23,820 patients, and 79 temporary shelters have been established.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes respectively, struck the South American country on June 24, with a 39-second interval between them. The ministry stated that 995 aftershocks have occurred since the main quakes.
