Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for launching extensive missile and drone attacks on eight US military installations in the Middle East, in response to new US attacks on Iranian territory.

In a statement released early Sunday (June 28), the IRGC announced that its naval and aerospace forces jointly conducted the operation between 2 AM and 3 AM local time. Among the claimed targets were Kuwait’s Ali Al Salem Air Base and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet located in Salman Port, Bahrain.

According to the IRGC, the targeted installations were destroyed in these attacks, which utilized ballistic missiles and drones. However, there has been no immediate confirmation from the United States regarding these claims.

The statement further mentioned that earlier on Saturday morning, the US attacked five Iranian coastal facilities. Washington had claimed that these strikes were a reaction to Iranian actions targeting a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC accused the United States of repeatedly violating the ceasefire and previous understandings. They claimed that according to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed between Iran and the US, mediated by Pakistan, the responsibility for supervising maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz rests with Iran.

The statement also warned that stricter measures would be taken against any vessel violating regulations in the future. Furthermore, it cautioned that any new aggression against Iran would be met with an even harsher and more extensive response.

The IRGC stated that violating the ceasefire contradicts the first clause of the “Islamabad Understanding,” and in such circumstances, all related processes could be suspended.

Earlier, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had conducted new military operations inside Iran. They claimed this action was in response to an attack targeting a commercial oil tanker.

Meanwhile, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported explosions in the Sirik area of Hormozgan province in the south. Citing a military source, it stated that these explosions occurred after several projectiles struck a telecommunication tower near Tahrui village. Multiple explosions were also reported from Qeshm Island.

These latest tit-for-tat attacks have reignited tensions in the Middle East. The international community has expressed deep concern, fearing further escalation of the situation.
